UT puts on Madrigal Dinner

UT’s annual Madrigal Dinner is upon us. It is running Wednesday November 19th through Saturday 22nd in the Texas Union Ballroom. You still have three more performances to catch if you haven’t see one yet.

Although, I’ve yet to see a Madrigal Dinner at UT- which I plan on rectifying if possible-I had the pleasure of seeing a Madrigal Dinner performance when I was in high school. It’s actually a lot of fun. Essentially you watch a Renaissance themed play while eating a four course meal of Renaissance themed food. The one I attended had “wenches” to help you to your seat, or who would dole out kisses for a dime, or shine your shoes etc. There was no silverware, as they weren’t invented in the 14th century. I hear the script and story change every year, so I have no idea what this year’s is about; Crowd interaction is really key in a Madrigal dinner, which always makes for a good time.

There is actually not a lot of information about Madrigal Dinner floating around on the internet. However, the Texas Union Events site https://www.utexas.edu/txunion/calendar/event/639/ has slightly more information if you need to have it.

The website also gives ticket info:

Tickets are available at the Frank Erwin Center Box Office (1701 Red River). Tickets went on sale on October 17th and are currently on sale.

Student tickets: $13.00, $15.00, $17.00
General public tickets: $26.00, $28.00, $30.00

So there you have it; if you have a spare night coming up real soon I would definitely suggest checking it out. I’ll let you know how it goes if I make it out.

Cheers,
Emily
