TEXAS PERFORMING ARTS.

Gearing up for the Reopening

Welcome to the student blog for the University of Texas Performing Arts Center! Students who are involved with the Performing Arts Center in a variety of capacities will regularly post here. And here is post #1…

For students, this is a great time to be at UT. We get to experience the new football stadium expansion, to revel in national academic acclaim, and also to welcome Bass Concert Hall back into our lives. For some of us, we have held tightly to fond memories of freshman and sophomore year attending world-class dance performances and music concerts right on our very own campus. For half of us, we never were able to experience Bass Concert Hall because of its 18-month renovation. But that’s all about to change.

Hook ‘em Arts is working hard to spread the word about the reopening of Bass Concert Hall as well as the upcoming season. Two weeks ago HEA members were out on the busiest stretch of campus (we call it the West Mall) handing out flyers and answering questions about the upcoming shows. The Box Office staff even came out that Thursday to sell $10 student tickets. The general consensus was that students were excited and surprised to see the caliber of artists coming in 2009. We hope that excitement becomes so infectious that students regularly attend performances and share their opinions about each.

The biggest project for Hook ‘em Arts this semester is to help plan the student event for the Bass Concert Hall reopening. This event will take place Thursday January 22, 2009, and we are excited about our collaboration with various student organizations to make this event possible. It will be free for all UT students, and the aim is simply to reacquaint the UT student body with Bass Concert Hall.

Stay tuned for more details about how the party planning is coming along and what else we have up our sleeves!

Cheers,
Maggie B.
