TEXAS PERFORMING ARTS
DONATES TICKETS TO
WORKFORCE SOLUTIONS

Texas Performing Arts helps to encourage job seekers in Travis County to maintain a positive attitude in the coming months by donating free concert and dance performance tickets to Workforce Solutions’ North Career Center. Texas Performing Arts Director and Associate Dean Kathy Panoff delivered the tickets to Workforce Solutions’ Executive Director, Alan Miller.

Texas Performing Arts’ donation includes tickets to performances by the Soweto Gospel Choir, Brazilian songwriter Gilberto Gil, and many others – 13 performances in all.

“After visiting Workforce Solutions extremely busy offices, I was struck by human reality of the national unemployment statistics,” comments Panoff. “I can only hope that the contribution of tickets to Texas Performing Arts events helps these folks maintain a positive outlook despite their current circumstances.”

Indeed, a positive attitude and an optimistic outlook are key components to finding employment in a competitive job market.

“One thing we advise job seekers to have,” explained Alan Miller, Executive Director at Workforce Solutions, “even though it’s difficult to maintain sometimes, is a positive attitude. Positivity and optimism can mean so much in a job interview.”

Although economists predict an economic turnaround this year for the Austin area, great for the future of the job market, the unemployed face a difficult present: too few job openings and too much competition. December’s unemployment rate was 6.9% for the second straight month, which means more than 62,000 area residents are looking for work. Along with maintaining a positive attitude, Workforce Solutions also advises job seekers to explore retraining and skills upgrading opportunities, and to look for volunteer positions.

Workforce Solutions-Capital Area is the workforce Board for Travis County and is leading the region’s workforce system in the development of a world-class workforce. For more information, please visit www.wfscapitalarea.com.
