— The Boston Globe

Hailed by The New York Times as “precise, pure, and deeply felt singing”, Texas Performing Arts proudly welcomes the award-winning vocal ensemble Chanticleer to Bass Concert Hall on Sunday, March 4. Known around the world as ‘an orchestra of voices’, the twelve-member male chorus presents a seamless blend of its voices. The San Francisco based chorus presents original interpretations of vocal literature ranging from Renaissance to jazz, and from gospel to venturesome new music.

Originally founded in 1978 by Louis Botto, Chanticleer gained international recognition in 1984 after performing a Mass at the International Josquin Symposium in Belgium and has been regarded as a premiere male chorus ever since. In the span of their existence, Chanticleer commissioned works from over 70 composers and premiered over 90 pieces with more than 100 men participating in the ensemble.
The ensemble maintains a mission to present choral music at the highest level of excellence and to encourage worldwide appreciation for the art of ensemble singing. Chanticleer strives to fulfill their mission statement through their schedule of live performance, support of education, and creation of new choral work. In 2010, Chanticleer was awarded with the Chorus American Education and Outreach Award for their educational program.
