CONDUCTS SCENE PAINTING WORKSHOP
APRIL 10-11, 2009
IN THE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER SCENIC STUDIO (2305 Trinity St.)

The University of Texas Department of Theatre and Dance in conjunction with the University of Texas at Austin Performing Arts Center, is pleased to announce a “Scene Painting Workshop with Legendary Scenic Artist Bob Moody”. The workshop will be held April 10 &11 in the Performing Arts Center Scenic Studio, located on the University of Texas campus.

Bob Moody (Landscape Painting for Murals & Stage), Professor and Master Scenic Artist, Brandeis University has extensive scene painting and teaching experience, including work for repertory theaters, television, opera, professional scenic studios, and colleges and universities around the country. He was a scenic-artist crewmember at St. Louis Municipal Opera (MUNI) for 24 summer seasons: the latter 11 seasons as Master Scenic Artist Chargeman. In addition, he was Chargeman Scenic Artist at ABC Television in Chicago for five years, and was also on the faculty of Goodman School of Drama in Chicago for five years

Participants in his workshop include UT Austin Theatre & Dance students, as well as students from local schools and the greater Austin and Southwest theatre community. However, the workshop is open to all for observation.

The scheduled Itinerary is as follows:
Friday April 10, 2009

10:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Backdrop Painting Demonstration (beginning)
10:30 a.m.-11:20 a.m. Slide show of “My life in Art” and “Painting The Bass Concert Hall/Ming Cho Lee Fire Curtain” painted in 1979.
11:30 a.m.-12:00 Fire Curtain Speech (in Bass Concert Hall auditorium)
12:00-1:00 p.m. Lunch Break
1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Back Drop Painting Demonstration (continued)
4:15 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Questions, interaction and informal portfolio reviews.

Saturday April 11, 2009

9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Color Mixing, Project Plan, Demonstration and discussion.
10:00 a.m.-12:00 Painting Workshop-Rendering 2-Dimensional fabric for the stage.
12:00-1:00 p.m. Lunch Break
1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Finish Painting projects, clean up
