“An Da Union connects with their audience via a bridge of timeless music.” – ECC Observer

Hailing from the Xilingol Grassland area of Inner Mongolia, An Da Union makes their Texas debut at Texas Performing Arts, Thursday, October 13 in Bass Concert Hall. Skillfully playing such traditional instruments as the morinkhuur (horsehead fiddle) and singing in the khoomii style of overtone vocals (similar to the throat singers of Tuva), An Da Union reveals a world that is largely hidden from view.

Mongolia has long had a strong musical tradition that is passed from one generation to the next including the morin huur or horse head fiddle that not only pays homage to the most important animal in the Mongol culture but also has a place in nearly every household. Yet, as with many traditions, the music that originally unified the Mongol tribes under Genghis Khan has all but disappeared in popular culture today.

The eight members of An Da Union are all trained in traditional Mongolian music and many come from musical families. Though they each have unique backgrounds their shared love of traditional music brought them together at the music academy where several members studied. However, it was during their time with the National Song & Dance Troupe in 2003 that the members united to create An Da Union.

Drawing inspiration from traditional songs and instruments, An Da Union captivates audiences with its percussive pulse and professional presentation. An Da Union combines many different styles and traditions from Inner and Outer Mongolia to create a new style of music that embodies the essence of Mongolian music. Now on a mission to preserve Mongolian culture and reengage younger generations, An Da Union is sharing their love of traditional music with a contemporary audience.
