Broken Social Scene is a Juno Award-winning Canadian indie rock musical collective, characterized by numerous sounds, grand orchestrations featuring guitars, horns, woodwinds, and violins, unusual song structures, upbeat tempos and an experimental, and sometimes-chaotic production style.
Toronto musicians and friends, Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning, started Broken Social Scene in 1999. Building on that collaboration, the band has since featured and spun-off some of the most recognizable names in indie rock including Leslie Feist, and Metric’s Emily Haines and James Shaw.
Broken Social Scene’s 2002 recording, You Forgot It in People was released to great Canadian praise and fanfare. The band spent the next two-and-a-half years on tour in the U.S., Europe and Japan. Drew and managers Jeff Remedios and Daniel Cutler also launched their own imprint, Arts & Crafts, which became home to Broken Social Scene and its numerous satellite acts, such as Apostle of Hustle and Stars.
This event is presented by the Performing Arts Center with the Texas Union Student Events Center’s Music and Entertainment Committee (MEC). The majority of funding for this event is provided through the MEC by designated tuition paid by all students.
